High Borrans House

Facilities include a spacious lounge, TV and projector for movie nights, and a warming log fire for cosy winter warming. The dining room is large and still has the original wooden flooring (disco optional.). The Orangery is a delightful conservatory space just off the dining room with comfy sofas & fabulous views We also have a flexible classroom/meeting room, ICT facilities, drying and kit rooms, a games room.

Bedrooms

Accommodation is available for up to 55 people. With groups this is 48 participants and 7 staff. Bedrooms vary in size, and 6 is the maximum in any one room. Several bedrooms are en-suite, there are some singles, and we have an en-suite disabled access bedroom downstairs.

Fresh bedding is provided, although the first challenge may be fun of children making your own bed (staff are exempt from this task!).

Food

Delicious home cooked meals are all part of the High Borrans experience. The day begins with a continental breakfast and a cooked option on activity days. This is followed by a packed lunch including our famous tray bakes and local Kendal mint cake (if it's good enough for the original Everest expedition, then it's good enough for us!). Dinner is a social affair and a chance to swap tales of the day's adventures. There are 3 courses and several menu choices. Favourites include our speciality steak pie, vegetable lasagne, cheesy pizza, sticky toffee pudding and jam roly-poly.

But don't take our word for it, come and sample it for yourselves! We'll even bake you a cake if it's your birthday!

Grounds

We have 5 acres of land, with woods, fields, ponds, wetlands and our own lake. The Centre is surrounded by farmland up in the Cumbrian fells so you really feel close to the environment & its inhabitants. There are several onsite activities in the grounds and it's also a lovely area to take a stroll after dinner or before breakfast. We have a woodland campfire circle, perfect for toasting marshmallows and telling stories over a mug of hot chocolate.

Elf Rigg - Outdoor learning space

Perfect for Forest Schools, environmental learning, training and outdoor courses, Elf Rigg is a private woodland space. Also available to hire on a daily basis. Often used by schools and local businesses, Elf Rigg has shelter, a fire, kitchen, toilets & showers.
