Planning your course

At High Borrans we make every effort to accommodate booking enquiries and have developed a flexible approach to course design to go beyond our 'traditional' 4-night week and 3-night weekends to include long weekends, split weeks and overlapping courses. High Borrans is open throughout the year to ensure the fullest use of the facility and to meet the differing requirements of our visiting groups.

Once you have booked:

Course Tutors
You will receive further detailed information and a course planning checklist. One of our instructors will take on the role of course tutor and will oversee your course right through. They will design a bespoke programme with you to ensure a combination and choice of activities to best meet your overall course objectives and nature of your group. The course tutor will discuss medical and dietary requirements in advance and make any necessary preparations or adjustments.

Programme
The High Borrans grounds and surrounding landscape offer a varied range of activities within easy walking distance such as the much loved ropes course, canoeing on the tarn and orienteering (not forgetting sledging if it snows!). Our set of minibuses allow for flexibility and journeys off site into the contrasting environments of the Cumbrian fells and lakes, South Lakes Peninsulas and the Yorkshire Dales and caves.

Sample Programmes:

Instructors
Every individual activity benefits from the leadership of a highly experienced and qualified instructor who will work with a group up to the maximum size of 12 participants. Continuity of staffing means that there is time to establish relationships and everyone gets to know each other very well allowing for the instructor to adjust the delivery and suit individuals within the group.

Kit
The Centre provides all outdoor clothing and equipment so no one needs to go shopping. Just turn up with typical comfortable, casual sports wear that you are happy to wear out and about.

Evenings
The course is run in partnership with you and usually visiting staff lead the evening activities, although we can do this for you on request. However with all the 'off the shelf' activities, many visiting staff enjoy this part of the programme and spend time doing reviewing activities, arts and crafts, fire circles, problem solving and team games, movies with popcorn and talent shows - there is also the unique mental maths experience of the High Borrans shop!

Our aim is for visiting staff to feel supported and to have ownership of the residential.
